Through the warmer months
Brisbane hedges grow fastest in spring, summer and autumn. Lighter, regular trims keep the shape far more easily than letting the hedge get away and then cutting it hard.
Brisbane hedge trimming prices
Hedge trimming cost in Brisbane depends on how tall and long the hedge is and how much it has grown. With The Garden Barber, a maintained hedge under 1.5 m is about $9 to $18 a metre, GST included. That covers trimming the sides and top and taking the green waste away, and every job starts at $99.

Trained in horticulture
Our team is trained in horticulture, so your hedge is cut to stay healthy and full for years, as well as neat on the day.
Every visit
We use quieter, modern electric trimmers, so there are no petrol fumes. Pruning, weeding and garden bed work can be done on the same visit.
How often
Brisbane hedges grow fastest in spring, summer and autumn. Lighter, regular trims keep the shape far more easily than letting the hedge get away and then cutting it hard.
We avoid cutting a hedge hard in the heat, when fresh cuts can scorch. A lighter tidy can wait for a cooler spell.
Vigorous hedges like lilly pilly and murraya usually need a trim every couple of months while they're growing. Slower hedges may only need a few trims a year.
The price
The table is a fair guide for most Brisbane hedges. These are the things that move your price up or down from it.
Height changes the price more than anything. A hedge you can reach from the ground is quick to trim. A tall one needs ladders or platforms, more care and more time.
We price by the metre, so a long hedge costs more than a short one. A deep, wide hedge has more surface to cut than a narrow one of the same length.
A hedge trimmed regularly only needs a light tidy. One left for a year or more needs cutting back hard, takes much longer and makes a lot more green waste.
A hedge along a fence line, over a garden bed or on a slope is harder to reach than one standing on open lawn.
A neat informal hedge is quicker than a formal one with crisp lines and square corners, which has to be cut by eye and checked as we go.
Every load we take away costs us to drop off, so a big cut back costs more than a light trim.
Two kinds of job
A light trim that takes off the new growth and keeps the hedge at the size and shape you want. It's the cheapest way to look after a hedge, because each trim is quick.
A hedge that has been left to grow needs cutting back much harder, sometimes in stages so it can recover. It takes longer and makes far more green waste, so we quote it once we've seen it.
Behind the price
This is what a professional, properly insured hedge service pays for out of every job.
Our hedges are trimmed by a two person crew on proper wages, and we pay their super and WorkCover. That's the biggest part of every price.
Our team is trained in horticulture, so each hedge is cut to suit how the plant grows and recovers.
We're fully insured, with public liability and workers compensation cover. It costs money every year, and it protects you as well as us.
Our vehicles need fuel, rego, insurance and servicing, and our quieter, modern electric trimmers need sharp blades, batteries, repairs and replacing.
We take the trimmings away, and the green waste facility charges us to drop them off.
Quotes, scheduling, accounts, training and our phone all cost time and money.
Our prices include GST. That 10% goes to the government, not to us.

It depends on the plant. Fast growing hedges usually need a trim every couple of months through the warmer months, and slower ones a few times a year. Regular light trims cost less than one big cut back.
